Following the ban on plastic packaging from the 28th August 2017, here is where we currently stand!
- Jumia is considered by the National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA) as a primary packaging industry player and hence been exempted from the ban. Therefore, Jumia can continue using plastic packaging bags as we pack at the source (Warehouse & Hubs).
- The use of bubble wrap and shrink wrap has not be banned as they are considered primary industrial packaging.
- Vendors can use non-branded non-plastic packaging material. However, this does not include bio-degradable plastic bags as all plasticand plastic look-a-like bags have been banned.
Therefore, from Monday 28th August 2017, until further notice, vendors will continue following Jumia’s Packaging Guidelines except in the case of use of Fliers and Transparent Nylon papers to package orders.
